Material Care Guide

Each Mock Studio piece is made with intention—shaped by material, process, and time. To help preserve their finish and function, we’ve put together care instructions based on our own experience working with these materials.

  • We use sanded acrylic for a soft, light-diffusing surface with a more tactile, matte finish. Each sheet is durable yet sensitive to scratching and harsh cleaners.

    Cleaning

Dust with a microfiber cloth. For regular cleaning, use mild soap and lukewarm water with a lint-free cloth. Avoid ammonia, alcohol, or abrasive materials. Dry immediately after cleaning.

    Maintenance

Use acrylic-safe cleaners like Novus 1 or Brillianize. For minor scratches, apply fine plastic polish or sand gently with 800+ grit paper in a circular motion. Avoid harsh polishing compounds.

    Care Notes

Keep away from direct heat or flame. Always lift objects—do not drag them across the surface. Store and transport with padding. With regular care, the acrylic will retain its smooth texture and translucency.

  • Our aluminum is hand-brushed for a soft, matte texture and finished with a protective wax that preserves its raw character while offering light resistance to oxidation and stains. Over time, this surface will develop a natural patina.

    Cleaning

Wipe with water or pH-neutral soap using a soft microfiber cloth. Dry immediately to avoid water spots. Avoid abrasive pads and acidic or alkaline cleaners, which can disturb the finish.

    Maintenance

Use an aluminum-safe cleaner sparingly to remove stains, following the direction of the brush marks. Reapply aluminum wax as needed.

    Care Notes

Avoid prolonged moisture or contact with acidic substances. Fingerprints can be buffed out with a dry cloth. Re-wax periodically to maintain protection. The finish will evolve over time, gaining depth and character.

For those interested, we can provide detailed instructions on how to hand-brush and re-wax your piece at home—just reach out to info@mock.nyc to request guidance.

  • We work with natural stones such as alabaster, chosen for their translucent quality and organic variation. Each piece features unique veining, texture, and tone—these are inherent to the material and part of its character.

    Cleaning

Wipe with a soft, damp cloth. Use only clean water or a very mild, pH-neutral soap if necessary. Dry immediately to prevent moisture absorption.

    Maintenance

Avoid acidic or abrasive cleaners, which can etch or dull the surface. Do not use vinegar, lemon, bleach, or ammonia-based products. For deeper cleaning, consult a stone care specialist.

    Care Notes

Stone is porous and sensitive to staining—use coasters and avoid prolonged exposure to oils, wine, or acidic foods. For added protection, a stone-safe sealer can be applied periodically.

Due to its natural softness, alabaster is best suited for indoor, low-traffic use. Handle with care to avoid chipping or scratching.

  • We finish all wood surfaces with Osmo Polyx-Oil, a plant-based hardwax oil that protects while preserving the natural feel of the grain.

    Cleaning

Dust with a soft cloth. For light cleaning, use a damp cloth with clean water. Avoid chemical cleaners. Do not let water sit on the surface.

    Maintenance

For dull or scratched areas, apply Osmo Maintenance Oil or Polyx-Oil with a lint-free cloth and buff lightly. For deeper wear, sand lightly before reapplying oil. Use Osmo Wash and Care for deeper cleaning.

    Care Notes

Avoid extreme temperature changes. Use coasters to protect against heat and moisture. Re-oiling will help preserve the finish. Wood will patinate with time—variations in tone and grain are natural and part of the material’s appeal.

Regular, gentle upkeep can help support the longevity of your piece as it naturally evolves with age and use. Unless otherwise noted, all pieces are intended for indoor use only. For specific questions or at-home care tips, feel free to reach out—we’re happy to share suggestions.

Our Care Guide is meant to be a helpful reference, and we may update it from time to time as we learn more about how our materials respond over the years. Please note that following these guidelines doesn’t guarantee results, and each piece may continue to shift and age depending on how it's used and where it's placed.
